Work while you study!

I had a few questions at the UAlberta International Virtual Open House regarding working in Canada while you study. Hopefully this can help answer some of your questions! Working in Canada can allow you to gain valuable work skills while you study and can help with impressing your future employers with global work experience. Here are some work options for you while you are a student at UAlberta:

1) Work on Campus

Working right on campus will be really convenient for you if you live on campus or have big breaks between classes. Some places students work include: UAlberta offices, restaurants in SUB/HUB/CAB, bookstores, libraries, and coffee shops.

2) Work off Campus

There is an Off-Campus Work Program that can help you with the resources to find part time employment while you are a student at UAlberta! There are many different places you can work to gain valuable experience, practice your English, and meet other Edmontonians. Some potential workplaces are: banks, restaurants, stores, and companies right in your field of study!

3) Cooperative Work Programs (known as the "CO-OP" program)

Co-op programs are offered by the School of Business and the Faculty of Engineering. Students can do CO-OPs for 4, 8, 12, or 16 month periods at a company that does work in their related field of study. This is great if you are looking for a specific work experience and allows you to start networking in your field!

4) Academic Internships

Many programs at UAlberta offer paid or unpaid internship work experience to students. this gives some great practical experience that is directly related to your field of study. Some of these programs include nursing clinical experience, education student teaching, arts work experience program, science industrial internship program, and more!
