What you need to know?
Canada's National Day commemorates the birth of the country on July 1st, 1867, in which the three British colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Canada were united. Every year on July 1st, Canada Day festivities take place across the country, but this year, and as we celebrate Canada's 150th birthday, the celebrations are bigger than ever!
How to celebrate on July 1st?
Edmonton is hosting a large number of special events across the city, so if you happen to be at UAlberta in 2017, don't miss out on taking part in Canada's biggest birthday party!
1. Downtown Edmonton
Celebrate Canada's birthday at the Legislative Assembly of Alberta all day long. The Legislature Building hosts an annual open house and a tour for visitors, as well as musical performances, cultural exhibits and other fun activities.

Come down t o Edmonton City Hal l in Churchill Square for free entertainment and fun activities! Canada Day celebrations start with a ceremony in the city room, followed by dance and music performances, displays and giveaways!
2. Parks and Historic sites
Join Edmonton’s diverse communities in celebrating the first of July at the park! Canada Day activities usually start early in the morning and include a typical Canadian breakfast, citizenship ceremonies, parades, BBQs, outdoor concerts, and much more!

3. The Fireworks
No matter how you choose to celebrate Canada Day, make sure you watch the magnificent fireworks over Edmonton’s river valley and the North Saskatchewan River.

The University of Alberta has launched Canada 150 website in honour of Canada's 150th anniversary. As part of UAlberta, learn more about the people who have contributed to the country and explore their outstanding achievements. You can also check out UAlberta Canada 150 for some special events!
